OK let me clear this up right off the top – I don’t know anyone named Bonnie. Well, OK, I do, but I haven’t seen her in probably 20 years, and I never worked with her or had a crush on her. (Well OK I have known a person or two similar to Bonnie, but by another name. But that’s beside the point -)
What is this business about Bonnie, you ask?
OK so my latest single is about that girl/guy you know really well from work/school/church/neighborhood, who you developed a crush on but couldn’t – for whatever reason – be romantic with her/him. Maybe one – or both – of you was married, maybe you guys were at a place where relationships were forbidden, whatever. That’s what my latest release is about (the lyrics are below).
Now you may be wondering how I came up with the name Bonnie in the first place (which is the most interesting thing about this post, really). After producing the instrumental part of this song, I did what David Byrne does and sung nonsense syllables to kinda let the melody inform the lyrics. And out popped “I can’t let Bonnie go”. Couldn’t help it. And when I tried changing the name or the words, nothing seemed to fit better. So I wrote the rest of the lyrics to fit that, and here we are.

Lyrics
I work with her all the time
But can’t give her a minute nor a dime
To be with her it is a crime
For sure! For sure!
It is a crime
For sure! For sure!
I won’t
I won’t
I can’t I can’t
I can’t I can’t I can’t
I
I can’t let Bonnie go
But I
Don’t ever wanna let it show
For sure! For sure!
I might like or love her too
But there is nothing I can do
To try to help her is taboo
For sure! For sure!
I won’t
I won’t
I can’t I can’t
I can’t I can’t I can’t
I
I can’t let Bonnie go
But I
Don’t ever wanna let it show
I might see her way too much
But I can’t speak or try to touch
Much less come through for her in the clutch
For sure! For sure!
I won’t
I won’t
I can’t I can’t
I can’t I can’t I can’t
I
I can’t let Bonnie go
But I
Don’t ever wanna let it show
I
I can’t let Bonnie go
But I
Don’t ever wanna let it show
