Sometimes, you’re doing the most mundane thing – in this case, picking up the dirty clothes from the bathroom floor – and a song just materializes in your head – melody and all – and there you are, singing a vapid song while doing something mundane. And Yeah, that’s how Brushing Up On My Japanese came about. But really –
I had been wanting to go to Tokyo for some time. Then, the day was identified – the flight and hotel even – and It Was Happening. A few weeks out, and I realized that it might be useful to be able to communicate with the natives. So, yeah, I started brushing up on Japanese, of which I knew zip. Then I was picking up clothes and POOF the song appeared. And so I had to record it – because that’s what I do – and here it is, dropping 9-23-25, just in time for… something Japanese I’m sure.
But wait there’s more – I rolled up a couple of other songs into this release to make an EP out of it – “I Can’t Let Bonnie Go” (released 8/12/25) and “IYKYK” (lyrics below).
